Request for Participation in the Study on Experiences of Caring for Patients with Substance Use Disorder

Dear Nursing Colleague,

We are two nurses undertaking a master's degree research project within the specialist nursing programme at Mälardalen University.

About the Study
The aim of this study is to explore nurses' experiences of caring for patients with substance use disorder (including issues such as alcohol dependence, opioid use, cannabis, or harmful use of other substances) in the community. This study may contribute to an increased understanding of nursing care in relation to substance use disorders in the community as well as to enhanced knowledge regarding care relationships, ethical considerations, and how the home care environment (community) affects nursing practice. The study will be conducted in both Sweden and England to highlight experiences within different healthcare systems.

How It Will Work
Data will be collected through an anonymous online questionnaire with open-ended questions. The survey will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. Your participation is entirely voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time without providing a reason. All your responses will be treated confidentially (kept secure on password-protected computers) and will only be used for the purpose of the thesis. No personal data or information that could identify you, your workplace, or your organisation will be collected.

Who Can Participate
The study is aimed at nurses or specialist nurses working within the community who have experience caring for patients with substance use disorders. If you belong to this group and wish to participate, we would like to hear from you, by completing the online questionnaire. All collected data will only be used for research purposes and will be deleted after the thesis has been approved. The benefits of the study include contributing to knowledge and experience regarding the care of patients with substance use disorders in the community. The downside is that some questions may evoke uncomfortable feelings or reminders of difficult situations. The results of this study could potentially support the development of improved work practices and clear structures for nurses, which may enhance both the work environment and the quality of care.

Information on the Study Results
The results will be published in a master's thesis at Mälardalen University. If you wish, you can also receive a copy of the final results.

Contact
If you have any questions about the study, please feel free to contact us. Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experiences.
